Kyra Nijskens

Short-Term Art Residency /

Kyra Nijskens (Ulestraten, 1997) is an artist from the Netherlands whose work explores how human activity reshapes ecological and cultural landscapes. Using materials and narratives that reveal the tensions between natural processes and human-made systems, she creates objects that feel both familiar and alien, reflecting the resilience of life that exists beyond human control.

The Dutch artist Kyra Nijskens has recently concluded a two-month residency at ArtWorks, as part of the No Entulho artistic residency programme. Throughout this period, she continued to develop her artistic practice through a research process focused on material experimentation and hands-on production. The artist worked closely with ArtWorks’ technical teams, taking part in workshops on fiberglass and resins, metal-mechanical processes, and painting, exploring the technical and physical characteristics of each material. Access to industrial tools, technical knowledge and production contexts allowed her to test ideas at different scales through direct engagement with making.
