in Collaboration With: Marryam Moma

Charity Hamidullah is a versatile multi-disciplinary artist from Rochester, New York, currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. With a 19-year background in tattooing, she empowers clients through self-expression, a theme she explores in her murals and contemporary art practice.  Her 2024 exhibition at the Atlanta Contemporary Museum, in collaboration with Articulate ATL and the Atlanta Ballet, solidified her prominence in the local art scene while connecting her love for culture and community. Committed to community engagement, she collaborates with various organizations and large scale companies like Microsoft and Target to foster identity and belonging through her work. As Hamidullah continues to connect individuals through art and storytelling, she puts an emphasis is celebrating shared experiences and culture to strengthen the bond for communities she loves.

Our residency program established a partnership with Atlanta BeltLine Inc. (ABI), resulting in a residency focused on hands-on experimentation, technical knowledge exchange, and both artistic and technical development within an industrial setting.

Charity Hamidullah was one of two artists selected by Atlanta BeltLine to participate in this six-week technical residency.

The residency was structured around weekly focuses, each dedicated to a specific technique.
The first two weeks were centered on material collection and hands-on experimentation, with an emphasis on prototyping using the gathered materials.

In the third week, the artists explored fabrication techniques in greater depth, particularly mold-making, constructing composite structures, and working with fiberglass and other composite materials.

The fourth week was dedicated to metalworking, where the artists were introduced to plasma cutting, hand bending with a blowtorch, welding (electrode, MIG/MAG, and TIG), and metal surface grinding.

The final two weeks focused on finishing and painting techniques. The artists experimented with airbrush painting, color mixing, and varnishing, refining their works for final presentation.
