Guilherme Figueiredo, 1996, based in Lisbon. Bachelor and masters in Artes Plásticas in Escola Superior de Artes e Design das Caldas da Rainha (Esad.cr). The work crosses references between the concept of play and contemporary themes such as the virtuality of video games. Ideas of parasitism and escapism also intercept the work by exploring realities that are dislodged from fiction and vice versa. It investigates the relation between empirical data taken from scientific research and fiction, materializing, in this way, the various layers of escapism.
The request for support for Guilherme's artistic residency comes following the selection of his project by FLAD for the Flechada program. "Virtual Parasite: Songs of Escape" is the title of the exhibition that marks Guilherme's first solo show, which combines references to the concept of play with contemporary themes related to the virtuality of video games. For two months, Guilherme was with us at the factory in an artistic residency, working freely and collaboratively with the support of technicians to produce some of the pieces presented at the Arbag Gallery in Lisbon.
